Hello Dear Friends
I hope all of you had a wonderful weekend. We try to have a fun holiday night out with our family each week. This past weekend we went out for a yummy dinner, in Boston, and then went to the Straight No Chasers concert. They are my favorite a cappella group of all time. They have a new holiday album this year and it has definitely has been added to my Christmas list.
The first weekend in December our town has a magical Christmas In the Square where you can find all the local shops decorated and welcoming visitors. Santa arrives on a fire truck and it’s always a merry night. When our children were little it was not to be missed. Now that the kids are older, we enjoy the evening, as a couple, with close friends. We are looking forward to another holiday night planned this week and a get-together Christmas celebration with friends on Saturday. Any excuse to dress up in those holiday outfits!!
Today I want to share (3) DIY holiday painted artwork.
I began with a simple, white canvas and painted the entire canvas with white gesso. (I find my vinyl adheres better to the canvas)
Once the gesso dried, I lightly traced a circle, in pencil, directly onto the canvas.
I decided to create the same design on two canvases. The first I painted red and the second I painted green. I added some white paint around the edges of the ball for highlights.
Using my Silhouette I cut the words merry, bright from gold vinyl. I cut an ampersand in white vinyl and an ornament hanger in silver vinyl.
I adhered each to the painted ornament.
I used 1/4″ Scor tape (here) to the top of the ornament hanger for the appearance of a ribbon. (I apologize for the blurry photo) Make sure to wrap the Scor Tape around the top of the canvas for a finished look.
I removed the backing from the Scor Tape and generously sprinkled black glitter to the canvas. (honestly this is much prettier in person)
Lastly I added a black and white striped ribbon atop the ornament. I love the 3-D look!!
Here is the completed red ornament…
And the green ornament…
For the next canvas I was inspired by the Pottery Barn catalog. I saw something similar and thought I would gave it a DIY try.
I prepped the canvas with white gesso and allowed time for it to dry.
Again using my Silhouette, I cut out the numbers 12 and 25 in red and green.
I simply adhered them directly onto the canvas above each other.
To add a little merriment I adhered 1/2″ Scor Tape around the outside edge of the canvas.
I removed the Scor tape backing and added 1/2″ red polka dot ribbon.
Simple and sweet.
If you do not want to give this a try, or do not have the time, please purchase any of these (3) canvases from my shop. It makes a great addition to your holiday decorating or a gift for a family member or friend.
